The Bourgeois Gentleman (Molière) – Théâtre Princesse Grace
11 November 2026
Created in 1670 for the court of Louis XIV, this comedy-ballet blends theater, music, and dance. Beneath the appearance of a Baroque musical farce, Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme stages the illusions of a wealthy middle-class man fascinated by nobility. To gain access to this idealized world, he surrounds himself with masters in various disciplines—dance, music, fencing, philosophy—and becomes prey to flatterers and impostors. In a whirlwind of misunderstandings, arranged marriages, and Oriental-inspired sketches, the piece humorously questions the boundaries between social classes, the power of appearances, and the ridiculousness of pretension. Duration: 1h45 without intermission.
