Romeo and Juliet – Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo
29 October 2026 → 1 November 2026
Created in 1996, the Romeo and Juliet ballet celebrates its 30th anniversary this year! Presented more than 400 times on the greatest international theater stages, the piece has become a signature ballet of the Company. Starting from the idea that everyone knows Romeo and Juliet, Jean-Christophe Maillot, Choreographer-Director of Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, refuses to paraphrase Shakespeare's literary monument. Rather than following step by step the struggle between the Capulets and Montagues to its tragic conclusion, he revisits the piece from an original perspective: the ballet carries us into the troubled soul of Friar Lawrence who, in wishing to do good, ultimately causes the death of both lovers. Choreography: Jean-Christophe Maillot after William Shakespeare. Music: Sergei Prokofiev.
