Monaco holds one of Europe's densest public art collections — 200+ works free in the open air, from Calder and de Chirico to Kapoor. This route strings the essentials across four districts: Fontvieille's sculpture park, the Rock, the port, the Casino terraces and the Larvotto seafront.

Fontvieille Sculpture Park
Start among the densest cluster: Arman's Cavalleria Eroica, Victor Ochoa's Torso Desperacion and André Masson's Frère et Sœur stand within metres of each other in the gardens by the Roseraie.

Grande Carpe (Lalanne)
François-Xavier Lalanne's gleaming oversized carp — his whimsical bestiary continues nearby with the Great Bear and the harnessed donkey.

Jardin de l'UNESCO
Four hectares above the Fontvieille port double as a gallery: Montalbano's Et le septième jour and Bergomi's Marta accovacciata amid fountains and an eleven-faced sundial.

Malizia — the founding legend
Climb to the Rock. Kees Verkade's bronze of François Grimaldi, sword under his monk's robe, marks the 1297 ruse that won the dynasty its fortress. Keld Moseholm's Fille sur une chaise sits along the way up.

The cliff gardens carry the collection's 19th-century layer — busts of Empress Eugénie and novelist Emmanuel Gonzalès among Aleppo pines and sea balconies.

Giorgio de Chirico's metaphysical mannequin lovers in bronze — a museum-grade surrealist landmark standing in the open air near the cathedral.

Emma de Sigaldi's octopus guards the museum approach — the prolific resident sculptor you'll now recognise all over town.

William Grover-Williams Memorial
Descend to the port. François Chevallier's bronze freezes the winner of the first Monaco Grand Prix (1929) mid-lap in his Bugatti 35B, beside the modern circuit at Sainte-Dévote.

Anna Chromý's eternal voyager watches the harbour. Detour: Manzù's Tebe in costume sits a street inland in La Condamine.

Sky Mirror (Kapoor)
Anish Kapoor's polished steel disc on Place du Casino folds sky and Belle Époque façade into one frame. The bust of Charles III, founder of Monte-Carlo, overlooks his gardens just below.

Casino terraces: Ludus & Hexa Grace
Bezzina's monumental cracked hand balances a globe on its fingertip — then look down from the terraces: Vasarely's Hexa Grace, 24,000 enamelled tiles across the Auditorium's roof, is visible only from up here.

A rare open-air Alexander Calder stabile — bolted steel blades now anchoring the new Mareterra quarter, the heavyweight American name in the collection.

Finish along the promenade: Dahlgård's La Petite Sirène (the Danish community's gift), Dussart's Le Pêcheur hauling his net, and Bezzina's Trois éléments — with the beach for your reward.
